The mansion is spread on 3 levels, each level built in 3 different period: the ground floor is dated back XVIII century on ruins of an ancient house; the first floor is dated back XX centrury. The actual owner, a well-known Italian architect, is renovating the building in keeping with the original features using traditional materials and bio-techniques to preserve its ancient characteristics. The mansion consists of two independent houses, the main unit boasts at the ground floor a two bedrooms, bathroom, sitting-living room and walking closet, at the first floor features main kitchen and dining room. The second unit, smaller than the first one and with vaulted star ceilings, is a studio-flat set at the first floor with views on the Castle and boasts a main room, storage and bathroom. The new layout will allow the buyer to use the building as private residences or as bed and breakfast. The shape and the layout could be modified on depending the buyer needs. The apartments could be sold separately. Copertino is a town dominated by its Medieval Castle, approximately 15 km from Lecce and 10 km from Sant’Isidoro beach on the Ionian west coast of Puglia. The origins of the town therefore came about after the Greek-Gothic War (535-553), which abolished the Ostrogoth Reign in Italy and made Puglia Byzantine province for centuries; especially its Southern regions. In 1498, Copertino passed hands to the Aragonese and was entrusted to the Castriota Scanderberg Family from Albania, as thanks for their help during battles against the French. Under their rule, Copertino enjoyed a period of major town planning development: the defensive walls were amplified and fortified and the St. Chiara Monastery was built. The Castle was also amplified under their domination, on the wishes of Alfonso Castriota, who entrusted the work to the architect Evangelista Menga (1540). Its rebirth had to await Bonaparte’s arrival in Italy during 1799, the Republic of Naples experience (1806), which were followed by the Carbonari (An association which promoted independent ideas) clashes (1820) and culminating with the fall of the Bourbons by the hand of the Garibaldi. Its citizens became part of the Reign of Italy through plebiscitary ballot (1860). San Giuseppe (St Joseph) was born here and became the patron of astronauts due to his rare gift of being able to levitate.
